Your behavioural style influences your choices

Welcome to the 7th edition of my Newsletter.

This month the focus is on choices, the choices that we make, how we make them and why we make them. When you get to the bottom, you will find some insights in to the different behavioural styles and the way each one differs in the process of making choices. Which one do you align with?

Philippa with Reiki certificate

Life is a matter of choices.....

I have recently gained my level 1 Reiki which I have wanted to do for years and just haven't got round to doing, but if, as the title says, life is a matter of choices, you could say that by not getting round to it I was actually choosing not to do it!

When my very good friend qualified as a Reiki master practitioner teacher and she offered me the opportunity to do my Reiki level one certificate, it was a very easy choice to make .

However, naively, I did not put much thought in to what Reiki was really about. To be honest, I just thought it was really cool and I wanted to try it (that is my sunshine yellow energy coming out in me).

And as I have now embarked on this journey, I have come to the understanding that Reiki is not just something that you get a certificate in to say you have done it, it is a lifestyle choice and to do this properly I realise I need to make different choices in my life.

I am currently going through my '21 day clearing' where, for 21 consecutive days you make the choice to do self-reiki everyday and choose to avoid things like that might get in the way of the Reiki energy like alcohol and junk food.

I, like most people, enjoy a few drinks at the weekend, I have takeaway most weeks and I enjoy the food that is deemed 'not good for you' on occasion so I have had to make real conscious choices to avoid these things and it has been hard.

Strangely though, not as hard as I thought and I think its because I have an underlying belief for wanting to make these changes and therefore that makes it easier to stick to as I would only be cheating myself if I didn't.

When was the last time you had to make a hard choice? Was there an underlying belief for you making it?

How did you approach it?

So, what have I been up to in October?

In the same month that the The "grate cheese robbery" happened, a scam reported to police of the theft of rare English Cheddar worth about 300,000 pounds from Neal’s Yard Dairy in London.

And after 31 years the world's longest treasure hunt came to an end in France, with the discovery of a golden owl statuette (The hunt was based on 11 puzzles set out by Max Valetin in the first Chouette D'or book).

I have been busy, busy, busy.

As part of Sales Club with Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce, I delivered The Psychology of Sales workshop, where in an interactive session individuals learned that being able to recognise different behavioural styles could enhance their relationships with their prospective customer and clients.

I did some learning myself and enhanced my own knowledge on Discovery Full Circle. This is a 360 feedback tool from Insights Discovery™️ that helps leaders see feedback from their peers and direct reports though the lens of the Insights Discovery behavioural styles (colour energies).

If that piques your interest for your own leaders, then just drop me a reply to this e-mail.

I also facilitated a workshop around 'defining roles and responsibilities within project teams' for one of my clients. Individuals within the organisation were wearing many hats at different times and the lines were becoming blurred with regards to the roles within projects and the roles outside of projects.

And I took part in Laura Teare-Jones' Get **it Done Club Community 5 day social Media Challenge.

Here is a round up of the posts from the 5 days

And we also had half term and halloween, so pumpkin carving, halloween trails and light shows were the order of the week at the end of October.

 Top Tip

In the Insights Discovery model, each colour energy has their own unique way of approaching choices, influenced by their core traits. Here are the 4 colour energies and their approach to making choices:

Fiery Red

Fiery Red types approach choices with quick, goal-focused decisiveness, confidently selecting practical options that align with their objectives. They’re action-driven, preferring choices that lead to immediate results without overthinking.

Sunshine Yellow

Sunshine Yellow types make choices with enthusiasm, often trusting their intuition and seeking options that foster enjoyment and connection. They’re open to flexibility, considering the social impact of their decisions and favoring paths that feel engaging and positive.

Earth Green

Earth Green types take a thoughtful, values-based approach, prioritizing decisions that consider others and maintain stability. They patiently weigh choices, preferring those that create harmony and seeking input from others to ensure alignment with collective needs.

Cool Blue

Cool Blue types make choices carefully and analytically, emphasizing detailed understanding and logical evaluation. They lean toward cautious, evidence-based options, following a structured approach to ensure their decisions are thoroughly considered and risk-averse.
