Explore New Perspectives

Welcome to the 8th edition of my Newsletter.

This month the focus is on perception.

Perception is a powerful thing. It shapes how we view the world, situations, and even ourselves.

But have you ever considered how the same reality can look completely different depending on the lens through which we see it?

Scroll down to see my top tips for each of the Insights Discovery™️colour energies for improving your ability to see and appreciate different perspectives

If you are not sure what I mean by 'colour energies', Take my short e-learning course by clicking on the below button to learn what your dominant colour energy is.

Glass half full or half empty?

Perception is real, even when it is not reality.....

When you look at the picture above, what do you see?

A glass half full or a glass half empty

Both are correct answers, just different perspectives.

The glass itself hasn’t changed. What changes is how each person perceives it.

A third perspective is that the glass is actually full, the reasoning behind this is that it is half full of water and half full of air?

The same goes for situations and events in life, the situation or event is neutral, however its the person perceiving it that puts the meaning on to it of positive or negative. Usually this is down to their own experiences, beliefs and emotions.

Interesting, right, but why does this matter?

Let me give you an example: Two people have a last minute deadline, for one, it is seen as an exciting challenge and they relish the opportunity and work furiously to meet it and for the other it is seen as undue pressure, it is overwhelming and they feel paralysed. So much so that they end up doing nothing.

Same situation, different perspectives - very different outcomes.

This understanding of different perspectives is extremely important, because when we approach situations solely from our own perspective, we risk not seeing the full picture.

Taking the time to consider other viewpoints can unlock deeper understanding and better outcomes.

Whether it’s a colleague, a client, or a loved one, their perception of the same situation might differ dramatically from yours.

When was the last time you took the time to consider a different perspective than your own? What was the outcome?

So, what have I been up to in November?

In the same month as the World's first wooden satellite named LignoSat was launched from the Kennedy Space Center (developed by Kyoto University to address space junk because it will burn up on re-entry) and the World's largest coral, larger than a blue whale and 300 years old, was found off the Solomon Islands in the southwest Pacific Ocean.....

I have been busy, busy, busy.

I attended the Chamber Round Table Networking event at the North Light in Chester and a Budget Briefing by Bennett Brooks at the Storyhouse in Chester, which on the day had an amazing book arch.

I delivered a workshop for the University of Manchester Innovation Factory to introduce their new starters to Insights Discovery as part of the organisation's commitment to embedding Insights into their culture.

I did some more personal development and attended the 'Reel Magic' Workshop delivered by Maira Sheikh, where we learned the art of creating reels and videos for your social media and I started the Christmas celebrations early with a visit to Chester Cathedral for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd's 100 Club.

My posts on Linked in focused on a number of topics including stress, recruitment costs and engagement.

And I had an article published on the West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce website - Your Circle of Control and Tips on how to Alleviate Stress Based on Your Behavioural Style

Top Tip

To improve your ability to see and appreciate different perspectives, here are some tailored tips for each of the Insights Discovery color energies:

  • Fiery Red: Pause before reacting. Take a moment to consider how others might view the situation.

Focus on slowing down before acting. Ask yourself, “How might others interpret this situation?” and actively seek their input. Ask questions like, What’s their goal here?”

  • Sunshine Yellow: Use your natural enthusiasm to connect with others, but stay curious. Instead of assuming everyone feels as optimistic as you, ask open questions.

Balance optimism with curiosity. Your energy can inspire, but actively listen to understand how others feel, even if their perspective is less upbeat.

  • Earth Green: Leverage your empathy to appreciate others’ feelings, but balance it with an understanding of their different priorities or thought processes.

Lean into your natural empathy but remember that not everyone processes emotions like you do. Sometimes, a logical perspective can complement your own.

  • Cool Blue: Step beyond logic and data to explore how emotions or values may influence someone’s perception. Facts are important, but feelings also shape the narrative.

Emotions and intuition can provide valuable insights that may not be immediately apparent.
